Description
HYVE Bowl/
handmade pottery by
matt hyleck
The lines and shades of color of this double handled bowl will make this not only a favorite functional piece, but one you’ll want to display as well! Whether used for a salad, rolls or muffins - you’ll certainly want to use it at your next dinner party or brunch. Or keep it on a hall table to collect your mail or simply to enjoy every day.
Matt Hyleck’s stoneware, traditionally thrown on the potter’s wheel, has echoes of British jug pottery in its shape and form. This historical reference is the underlying design element in his contemporary functional pieces. Each piece reflects a sophistication and complexity in its surface which is created by Shino glaze. Matt’s work is known for its manifold structure and appearance. The multi textured, earthy color migration of this piece is derived from Matt’s skillful manipulation of one glaze family. This results in subtle yet complex notes of shimmering color. The patterns on the surface are created by overlapping two Shino glazes prior to firing and using “wax resist” brush work. The variations from matte to a crystal glassy surface are produced by dusting the unfired piece with pine, apple and locust ash. Not only is this bowl delightful to use, it also satisfies the aesthetics of the most discerning collector.
Unless otherwise noted, the item pictured is a sample, and will not be the actual piece purchased. Each piece is unique, so while your purchase will be similar to the piece pictured, color, pattern, shape and size will vary.
