Description
ORIBE Tumbler/
handmade pottery by
ann hazels
This porcelain hand built tumbler, by Ann Hazels, casts Mediterranean hues of sea greens, sandy beiges and hints of ruby. Fired in the noborigama wood kiln, the reaction of the fire and heat create a subtle mutation of color against the unglazed areas, creating caramel browns. Ann has accented this drinkware with a pinged texture that resembles snakeskin. A neat feature of this handmade pottery is the dimple where your fingertips ergonomically rest, making the cup extremely comfortable to hold.
About the Artist
Ann Hazels was a resident artist at Baltimore Clayworks, Mendocino Art Center in California, and a Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute fellowship artist. She holds a BA from Berea College in Kentucky and completed a Post Bacculaurette program at UMASS Dartmouth. Another influential stage of her ceramic development took place while serving as studio assistant for internationally renowned artist, David Paul Bacharach. Today, Ann has a studio in Baltimore, Maryland and is actively exhibiting and selling her ceramics throughout the region. She prefers working with porcelain and uses glazes that are representative of colors found in the environment. Using specific and mindful placement of objects, her designs center on natural elements of earth, air, water, and light. Her forms are reminiscent of ancient dwellings and weathered landscape that suggest a sensitivity and awareness to all that has traveled through.
