Description
MOLECULE Mug/
handmade pottery by
sarah house
Sarah House's porcelain thrown mug teases and taunts so that you will whisk it up to touch its smooth, hilly surface. The robust curves please the eye, and the bulbous handle makes it particular easy to cradle in the palm of your hand. A clear gloss glaze grazes the exterior of this contemporary piece of handmade pottery. While a soothing foam green peaks out from its interior, giving it a sleek, ultra modern look. Sarah thoughtfully added an ergonomic divot below the handle, creating a perfect fit nook for your fingers to rest against while taking the next sip of tea or coffee.
About the Artist
Sarah House, a Baltimore native, earned her BFA in Ceramics from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in 2006. She was awarded the Windgate Fellowship for emerging artists and traveled to Hungary where she became an Artist in Residence at the International Ceramics Studio. Sarah creates sculpture and installations, as well as drawings, paintings, functional glass and pottery. Her work offers a fresh perspective in porcelain and innovative dimensions in slip casting. Focusing primarily on installation and sculptural works, Sarah borrows mathematical patterns such as spirals and fractals. These vortexes she creates offer dialogue about celestial bodies, human existence, and infinite scale. She has exhibited her works nationally in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Maine, Ohio, Washington and Kansas, as well as internationally in Kecskemet, Hungary. She is currently a Resident Artist and an Instructor at The Baltimore Clayworks, as well as a faculty member at The Community College of Baltimore County.
