Description
TOTEM/
handmade sculpture by
patricia jones
This totem, by Patricia Jones, was featured during our recent exhibition of raku and wood fired stoneware bowls, plates and narrative totems by senior adult women at Pimlico Road Arts and Community Center. The Creative Aging Program was led by Trisha Kyner and Herb Massie, administered by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, and funded by MetLife Foundation.
About the Artist
Patricia Jones, a Baltimore native, became involved with the Baltimore Clayworks Community Arts Program seven years ago when her grandchildren started taking clay classes in her community. Since that time Patricia has come to love working with and learning about clay, especially since the workshops she attends are family oriented and allow people in the community to interact with one another.
Patricia also loves using her hands and considers clay a fun and relaxing hobby, even when it requires tedious attention to detail. Since she prefers tile to sculpture, for her piece “Heads or Heads,” Patricia decided not to create something too intricate. She describes the heads on her totem project as simple “perfect space-looking people.”
In addition to attending classes through the Community Arts Program, Ruth also designs and sells her own trivets at the silent auction at her grandchildren’s school every year.
