Description
FOR MR. ROGER ring pot/handmade pottery by yoshi fujii

From the Artist: My journey started when I happened to take a non-major ceramics class to get an easy A in my junior year at University of Southern Mississippi. Because of the magic of clay, as some of you know, I got addicted to the joy of getting muddy and making objects that I could use and it led me to take more courses in art. As I was finishing my first bachelors degree, I was selected as a recipient of the Roger Brinegar Endowed Scholarship in 2000. The scholarship was established after a Mississippi potter, late Mr. Roger Brinegar (1941-1993) and it gave me an opportunity to stay in school in order to pursue my study in ceramic art. Through thescholarship, I learned more about Mr. Roger’s work and also got to know his wife, Mrs. Margaret Buttross-Brinegar. (After some years of connection, now I call her my “Mississippi Mom.”) Whenever my work evolves, I make a ring teapot that is inspired by Mr. Roger’s signature piece, and I believe, within this series, he continues to live in my hands. I only wish I could have known him.
